International Business Studies & Curious Fiction
Managing International Business is designed for university students around the world. It is used as a core text at the University of Greenwich and internationally by partner institutions. It is written in an engaging style and regularly updated to include the latest hot topics. Importantly, it is on sale as an affordable ebook (Amazon being one place, or direct from the printer here) and the teaching/learning materials are available for free here. This means that students can buy more textbooks and not resort to the dodginess of the internet!
Universities are hotbeds of research activity but what is little understood is how many new ideas never make it beyond the classroom. These are the research projects conducted by students, often comprising innovative proposals and recommendations yet being left to languish once they have fulfilled their purpose of achieving a grade. Furthermore, the grade awarded reflects only the extent to which the marking criteria have been met, not the inherent value of the ideas contained within.
The purpose of New Horizons publications, part of the Greenwich Pilot Series, is to bring these ideas to a wider audience. The contributions here are adapted from essays, consultancies and research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Taking a light touch to editing, the true voice of these students is allowed to come through, along with their brilliant ideas. Without doubt, we are witnessing the entry of a new generation of leaders into the business world.
There is more to life than textbooks so when other curiosities appear they will be displayed here. This week it is a nice little novel that tells the story of what happened before Oliver Twist came along. Was Mr Bumble so bad? Probably, but this book lets us see why he became what he did. It also argues that the real hero of Oliver Twist was Nancy. Maybe.
